DERIVATIVES

Derivative adalah pembentukan kata baru dari kata yang sudah ada.

Berikut perubahan kata dalam derivative:

1.       Noun suffixes: membentuk kata benda dengan menambahkan akhiran –ness, -ly, -hood, -ian, -cy, -er, -or, -ship, -ist, -ment, -tion, -ance, -t, -y, -sion, -action, -al, -se, -iture, -ant, -ent, -ce.

Contoh: happy-happiness, electric-electricity, child-childhood, develop-development

2.       Adjective suffixes: membentuk kata sifat dengan menambahkan akhiran –ful, -ish, -less, -like, ous, -y, -cy, -al, -ic, ary, -ed, an, -able, -ible,ive.

Contoh: sorrow-sorrowful, care-careless, cloud-cloudy, danger-dangerous.

3.       Verb affixes: membentuk kata kerja dengan menambah awalan en...., dis..., mis..., re..., in.., a, .... ate,....fy.

Contoh: Courage-encourage, agree-disagree, tell-retell

4.       Untuk membentuk kata yang berarti negatif dengan imbuhan un..., dis..., in..., im..., non..., mis...

Contoh: happy-unhappy, like-dislike, complete-incomplete, regular-irregular

5.       Untuk menyatakan orang yang mengerjakan sesuatu, tambahkan akhiran, er, -or, -ant, -ist.

Contoh: drive-driver, act-actor, assist-assistance, guitar-guitarist

6.       Pembentukan adverb dari adjective dengan menambahkan akhiran –ly.

Contoh: quickly-quickly, wise-wisely, slowly, properly
