LET’S STUDY “THE CAUSATIVE “HAVE AND GET”.

STUDY THE PATTERNS.

READ THE EXAMPLES.

A.    Causative HAVE is followed by the simple form of a verb, not an infinitive. Causative HAVE means that someone asks another person/ people to do something. Here is the pattern.

Subject +have/has/had + object + Vbase

 


Examples:

1.       My English teacher has me do this test.

2.       Vita and Rosa have Ratih tell the film review.

Here are some other examples.

B.    Causative GET is followed by to infinitive. Causative GET means that someone persuades other people to do something. Here is the pattern.

Subject + get/gets/got + object active + to infinitive

 

Examples:

1.       I get my friend to help me do the homework.

2.       Hilda’s gets her mother to explain how to make a barbecue lamb.

Here are some other examples.

C.    Causative HAVE and GET is followed by the past participle to give a passive meaning.

Here are the patterns:

Subject + have/has/had + object passive + past participle

 

Examples:

1.       My father has the car fixed.

2.       My mother has the egg fried.

Here are some other examples:

Example:

My father had me wash his car yesterday.

1.         My mother asked me to buy some eggs yesterday.

2.         The servant does not clean the floor for us everyday.

3.         Father asked Mr. Arman to paint the gate last week.

4.         I asked a cobbler to mend my shoes.

5.         Your hair is too long. You need to cut it.

6.         Tell Rosa to translate this manual into English.

7.         Tell Ronaldo to take another photograph.

8.         Hilman asked his tailor to shorten his trousers.

9.         I am going to tell my brother to clean his room.
